Angelfood Ministries started in 1994 feeding 34 families off Pastor Joe Wingo's back porch. Last year, Angelfood fed 1.6 million families, all over the country. In just over ten years this ministry has grown by leaps and bounds, bringing food and the love of Jesus to those in need.
How does it work?Anyone, and I mean anyone, can contact the church before the order deadline to order and pay for a box of food. Each box costs $25 and contains about $60 worth of food. Several days later, but in the same month, Angelfood delivers the food to Tree, and the box is ready to be picked up. To give you an idea of the turnaround time, the time between order and pickup in January 2006 was 12 days. Orders were due Jan 9th, and distribution day was Jan 21.
I want to buy a box of food! You need to contact Kay Scott at the church office, (830) 625-6375, to place an order.
How is Tree of Life involved?Tree of Life is a host site for Angelfood Ministries. They work with hundreds of host sites throughout the country to get the word out, package, and deliver the food. Volunteers at Tree of Life receive the food and divide it into the boxes to prepare it for pickup. This exciting time really allows for the volunteers to connect with each other, and anyone can do it!
I want to volunteer for distribution day!And we would love to have you! Time required will be between two and four hours, one day a month. You will be working with between 5 and 10 other volunteers to seperate the various food into the boxes and readying them for pickup. To have a part in this minsitry contact Kay Scott at the church office, (830) 625-6375.
